Saving Shelter Pets would like to express our sincere appreciation to every one of our supporters and friends who contributed to SSP through Network For Good during the Six Degrees fundraising contest. SSP collected 462 donations for the total amount of $10,272 during the contest period. For all who donated, asked their family and friends to donate, spread the word by cross-posting, sent e-mails, hung flyers, and just prayed for good things – the hard work has paid off!
We are very pleased and proud to announce that we finished the contest as one of the top six charities with the most donations, and therefore we will receive a matching funds grant in the amount of $10,000!
Just as importantly, the outreach work done for the contest allowed us to make some new friends and reconnect with some old ones, and we are thankful for that opportunity.
Many of the dollars raised during the contest have been put to work already. Our latest transport effort (our 39th since inception), which delivered 15 dogs and 32 puppies to rescue in the last week of September, was funded largely by donations collected through the Six Degrees contest. Other donations received were directed to fund our other programs (see breakdown by program below). As part of the Spay/Neuter donations, money was contributed for two very special events: $840 was raised to co-sponsor a Spay Day in Murray County, GA, scheduled for October 25, and $372 was raised for a Spay/Neuter Weekend with the RASCAL mobile surgical unit in Columbiana County, OH, the weekend of November 3–4.
Final breakdown of contest donations allocated by program is as follows:
• Rescue & Transport - $6,633 (see photos below!)
• Spay/Neuter - $1,757 (includes the two special events noted above)
• Puppy Promises - $1,118
• Bernie’s Buddies Heartworm Fund - $764
For the grant money, the SSP Board of Directors is planning to use a portion to reinforce our cash reserve, for major medical bills and other unforeseen big expenses. For the rest, we are exploring investment options, to provide both dividend income and longer term capital appreciation. We believe this strategy will ensure that SSP will be around to help shelter pets in need for many years to come!
