| MID-SUMMER NEWSLETTER August 21, 2007 Your friends at Saving Shelter Pets (SSP) have been busy so far this summer! In addition to our regular rescue efforts and continuing our spay/neuter certificate program, we participated in a special spay/neuter weekend at the Humane Society of Columbiana County (HSCC) in Salem, Ohio, on July 7-8. This spay/neuter event was co-sponsored by SSP and HSCC. Spay & neuter surgeries were performed by the RASCAL unit, a mobile surgical clinic that operates in Ohio. Financial assistance was provided by SSP and HSCC to help low-income families afford the cost of the surgeries. The Columbiana County Dog Pound even set up a low-cost vaccination booth on Saturday! Together, we performed a total of 80 surgeries during the 2-day event! Saving Shelter Pets recognizes that spay/neuter is THE most important weapon in the fight against pet overpopulation. We are very proud of our continuing efforts to promote this crucial aspect of responsible pet ownership. And, if that isn’t enough – Saving Shelter Pets has once again entered Kevin Bacon’s Six Degrees charity fundraising contest! You may recall that we participated in the March run of this contest, and finished in seventh place – just out of the money, but a very respectable finish for a small organization! This time we are determined to use what we learned from our last experience and win the grant money for the animals! The Six Degrees contest is a competition among 501(c)3 charities to collect the highest NUMBER of donations for their cause between now and September 16th. The objective for each charity is to reach out to as many people as possible about the work that your charity does, and inspire them to make a contribution to your cause. The top six charities who collect the greatest number of donations by September 16th will receive a matching funds grant for up to $10,000 from Kevin Bacon, Hanes, and Six Degrees. Can SSP inspire YOU to help us make a difference? Funds raised through this contest will be used to sponsor events such as the Spay/Neuter event detailed above, or to fund one of our regular programs: • Rescue & Transport You may designate your donation towards a specific SSP program or activity if you wish – please include a note where instructed during the donation process. Please help us help the animals – donate just $10 today! | |||
