| FALL 2007 NEWSLETTER November 15, 2007 Fall has been a very busy time for SSP! We have run a number of successful rescue transports, sponsored two different spay/neuter events, and participated in a successful contest campaign! Rescue & Transport Since September, SSP has sent three transports to the Northeast, each full of rescued dogs and puppies from high-kill shelters in GA. Links to the stories and pictures from these (transports 38, 39, and 40) will be posted on the SSP website soon! Transport #41 is scheduled to depart Georgia just before Thanksgiving, and it will be followed almost immediately by #42 at the end of November. These lucky puppers (and some kitties this month too!) will have an opportunity to find a warm and loving home for the upcoming holiday season! SSP’s Rescue & Transport program has saved over 600 animals so far in 2007 – and we have more than a month left this year to save some more! ![]() Puppy Promises SSP’s Puppy Promises program is serving two locations in Georgia at this time – Murray County and Cherokee County. Since September, we have saved 99 puppies from entering the shelter, and spayed the 17 mother dogs of these litters. In addition, we recently upgraded the program to finance the spay/neuter of all other dogs and cats in the puppies’ household – thereby providing even more proactive support in the fight against pet overpopulation! ![]() Spay Day – Murray County (GA) On October 25, SSP sponsored a Spay Day for cats at the Murray County Animal Control facility in Chatsworth, GA. During this all-day event, 20 free spay surgeries were performed for low-income cat owners in the Murray County area – thanks to donations received by SSP in the Six Degrees contest held earlier this year (see the previous SSP newsletter for details about the Six Degrees contest). Thanks to Pauline and her staff at the Murray facility for handling the event arrangements, and to Dr. Emily Felker for performing the much-needed surgeries. ![]() Spay/Neuter Weekend – Columbiana County (OH) On November 3-4, in conjunction with the Humane Society of Columbiana County (HSCC), SSP co-sponsored a Spay & Neuter weekend at the HSCC facility in Salem, OH. Recall that we previously collaborated on a similar event this past July. As before, the RASCAL mobile spay/neuter van was on-hand again to provide the surgery services. All together, 89 animals were spayed or neutered – 17 male dogs, 22 female dogs, 25 male cats, and 25 female cats. Thanks to the HSCC staff for arranging and hosting the event, and also to the RASCAL unit staff for their valuable assistance. Razoo "Change Your World" Contest During October, SSP participated in a contest on the social networking site, Razoo. The objective was to collect the most votes for SSP as the favorite group among all the non-profits on Razoo. SSP finished in fourth place of 34 groups in the contest, and received a $1,500 Honorable Mention prize for our efforts. We at SSP are all very happy to have found the Razoo network and to have made new friends there, and we hope to continue our outreach work there going forward. We are planning to apply the contest winnings to sponsor some additional Spay Days at Murray County in the coming months, so that we’ll have fewer kittens to worry about in the Spring! As always , those of us at SSP extend our hearfelt appreciation to all of you who give generously to help us help animals throughout the year. We are truly grateful for your support, and we couldn’t continue our efforts without you! AND – check your e-mail inboxes in the coming days for a special Holiday Shopping edition of the SSP newsletter – featuring the 2nd annual SSP custom calendar sale, another jewelry sale at Bella of Cape Cod, a Pampered Chef sale to benefit SSP, and an overview of all your favorite SSP afflilate programs! | |||
