FALL 2006 NEWSLETTER
September 25, 2006
Welcome! This is the inaugural edition of the Saving Shelter Pets Newsletter. We will be sending these publications by e-mail on a quarterly basis to keep our forum members and other friends briefed on recent events in the SSP organization. We hope you find these newsletters interesting and informative, and we look forward to bringing them to you. If you have not visited the website or the forum recently, we encourage you to do so. Below is a quick update on some of our current programs. Thanks for reading and thanks for supporting the work of Saving Shelter Pets!
Rescue & Transport As of this writing, SSP has performed 18 transports since our inception in January of this year. We have rescued a total of 433 dogs, puppies, cats, and kittens in the course of this work. Our August transport moved 60 dogs in two cargo vans, from Atlanta to Big Sky country near Helena , Montana. All but a few of those dogs have already been adopted into wonderful forever homes! September’s transport will take dogs to various rescues in the New England area. Check the forum in the coming days for updates on their adoptions. (Do it soon – they’ll get snatched up in a hurry, as usual!) The SSP organization extends a sincere “thank you” to each and every one of our forum members and friends, for monetary and other contributions you have each made toward these transports. Bernie’s Buddies This fund has provided for the vetting and boarding expenses to treat six dogs for heartworm since the beginning of the year. In addition, there are five more dogs (pulled from shelters in August) that are currently undergoing treatment, thanks to this program. These five are expected to be ready for transport and adoption by the end of October. SSP thanks everyone who has generously donated to the fund that saves the lives of all these dogs in need. Puppy Promises This innovative program, designed to keep puppies out of the shelters and also to keep mommas from having additional litters, has so far saved 40 puppies from an uncertain fate inside the walls of the Murray County facility. Also, at our Spay Day on July 27 of this year, SSP footed the bill for spay surgery of seven dogs that had been mothers to the PP puppies – so that they will never again have a litter of unwanted puppies! Our current transport has a few of our PP puppies on it, and we have recently signed up two more litters of six puppies each (and their mommas) for rescue and spaying in the near future. Stay tuned for updates on these puppies and their moms. As always, SSP sincerely thanks all of you who have contributed, financially and otherwise, to the launch and early success of this fledgling program. Read more and see photos...
To all of our forum members and friends, on MySpace and elsewhere: We cannot say it often enough or emphatically enough – SSP is only able to help these animals because of your support!! Let’s all be proud of what we have accomplished by working together!
