The Bernies’ Buddies program provides funding to cover the cost of treatment and boarding for heartworm positive dogs in our Rescue & Transport program.

We typically rescue 1–2 heartworm positive dogs each month. Treatment and boarding for each dog is very expensive, and can cost up to $500.

About Heartworm:
Heartworm is a small thread-like worm that is transmitted from one dog to another through mosquito bites. Heartworm eventually kills its host through congestive heart failure. Dogs must go through a long and uncomfortable treatment to remove the worms. This fatal disease can be easily prevented by giving your dog a monthly heartworm preventative, such as Heartgard, Revolution, or Sentinel.

We rely solely on donations to provide these dogs with the treatment they deserve. Please consider donating today to help more dogs like the ones pictured on the right!

Total number of dogs treated through this program: 36

In memory of Bernie, a very special rottweiler rescued from New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina.
He will never be forgotten, and his memory will live on through the dogs we are able to save through the Bernie's Buddies heartworm fund.
